http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-1957-Fe...ameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting This time it is listed as Vintage 1957 Fender Precision/Telecaster Bass Guitar and carries the following disclaimer:
We need to remember that no one had any clue what these basses would be worth today in original condition. Cut the folks a break. Having said that, I'd imagine that the Sting Signature bass would yield a very good sound for much less than 1.6K.
Hey, Ramon Flores scratched his name into the back of the neck plate in 1967! I can't believe people actually bid on this thing. It's a shame to see such a nice bass get so trashed. And what's with all the gold sparkles. Was it previously used in a Disco band in 1976?
I still say they should glue some macaroni on it to go with the sparkles. They already practically bedazzled it...
i don't understand how people can get so wound up about this. 20 years a go this was just a crappy bass that someone messed around with. imo it's still a crappy bass; regardless of originality. if it were original and in good shape it would be worth a lot of money because it's old and crappy, just like an original ferrari 250 gto is worth a lot of money for exactly the same reason. there is nothing great about a 250 gto (just looks), and neither is there about an old fender. i'm not bashing collectors of old instruments, i understand why they do it and why they pay as much as the instrument is worth to them. you guys should check out the classic car scene and see what has been done to now highly collectable cars 20-25 years ago. a bit of sparkly paint is nothing.
Sold for $2300 or so. I wish I would have known about this relist! This is an amazing deal for a refin as long as it is fairly stock (which I belive the prior listing pretty much confirmed).
