After 3 months of waiting my new Spalted Roscoe 3005 arrived today! Hands down the finest Roscoe I've ever owned! Absolutely flawless! I know how difficult spalted maple can be to work with and I'm just amazed at the high quality of workmanship of the shaping and finishing of the top! Gard had previously hinted that the back of the instrument (Spanish Cedar) held a surprise but wouldn't tell me what it was. Turns out that the Spanish Cedar body is figured and book matched. On top of that, they finished it with a beautiful amber tint! Of course the sound is awesome! Here's the specs: Spalted maple top Spanish Cedar body (figured & book matched) African Tulipwood fingerboard Demeter pre Diamondwood carved nut
Wow, between this and AJ's new F, there are some beautiful instruments being shown lately. Sweet bass, man!
The joys of a new Roscoe! Man is that fun! Just played my first big gig with my "new" (6 month old) Roscoe fretless. We played a big festival gig opening for an All Star Rock band including guys from Sugarloaf, Iron Butterfly and Rare Earth. The bass player was from another band I don't remember. He was playing an old Tobias, but other musicians kept telling me that my bass sounded much better than his. Oh yeah. I forgot it's not all about me. That is a gorgeous bass. If it sounds half as good as it looks, you'll enjoy it forever!
Yeah, it's a blast watching it come together via pictures but nothing beats that rush you get when you open that case for the first time and pick it up and play it! This one is without a doubt very special! I'm really looking to playing it out Sunday! Thanks to everyone for the kind words on the new Roscoe. All I can say is pictures just don't do it justice!
Joe, Congrats on your new Roscoe! Man that thing is beautiful. I was impressed with the progress pics but the finished pics are stunning. Another few weeks and I'll have some spalted goodness to share too. Shawn
Hey Joe, Congrats on your new bass, and thank you for the very nice e-mail as well. I really had fun working on this with you, and I'm glad that the experience was a positive and fun one for you. I actually knew about the back and have been sitting on that secret (and photos) for quite some time, so I'm glad that you enjoyed the surprise!!! Overall, I think that your bass turned out amazingly well, but then again, I never had any doubt! Enjoy.
