from what i've seen in our general music stores: fenders, ibanez, yamaha, musicman SUBs (no top of the line), all sorts of copies. i have heard of one specialist bass retailer, but they're not close and i haven't had a chance to go check them out. the reality is that australia is so far away, most of the top models of big brands have to be shipped to order. :bawl: any aussies out there, help me out. where can i find a bongo to try?

O man, Are you kidding? Basses Grow on trees here... Hell I got a Fodera Tree out back, you just gotta get 'em while there ripe.

JT has a Show quality Conklin Vine, and so does Mark.

Adrian got lucky and found a Norstrand seed...

Wow, what type of fertilizer do you use for those? Or do you just bury large sums of money at the base of the tree/vine when it first starts growing?

I offered to sell my kidney for a Sadowsky.

    It didn't work.

Fender Jazz Mulch, No matter what anyone says, or how much they dont like Fender's mulch its always the beginning of any good, healthy bass plant.

  15. You're just an other one! One more victim of Talkbass... ;)
Basses will come...Look, here in France, you have a lot of Fenders, Musicmans, etc....
Not a lot of high end basses (JP and some other luthiers are there...)
I took patience and now I'll get a F! It takes time, but it works....I'm a student and I have a car too!!!

I gotta tell you, my back hurts everyday. I get up in the morning and stroll down to the pedulla well to haul up a bucket of mvp goodness. When I get back I have to hike out to the Walter Woods and pick a Nordstrand. Man, life is hard.

First of all stop for a minute and breathe...... that's right......inhale.....exhale.....Feel a bit better? Good. Now go and pick up your current bass and repeatedly strike yourself in the head with it. Do it enough, and no more GAS issues. I've done this a few times, and when I come to, for some reason, the new bass just isn't as attractive any more. Another tip is to leave the bloodstains on the bass; people are less likely to give you crap at gigs or try to steal your bass off the stand when you're not looking.

Seriously though, when I was living in Sydney recently I didn't see a Bongo in any of the stores (and I did a bit of window shopping) and few Stingrays even. Before you get too hot and sweaty about getting a bass you haven't played, find one to play. Maybe someone reading here has one and will let you come over and try it or ring the distributor and see who might have one in stock. If it means a long drive to do either, do it, as then you'll know if it's the bass for you, which will either make the focus to save easier, or get you off the GAS-hook. I'd hate for you to save, order and get the bass, and decide once you actually have it in your hands that you don't like it for some reason.

Remember too, that importing is always an option, and can save money too, but I'd also ring all the stores in Oz that have a Bongo or can get one to get a quote and a lead time for delivery.

My GAS lusting recently has been damped by a tip I got here advising to pay myself an amount for my practice etc and put that towards the new gear. Working well so far and it's given the breathing space to decide what I really want. There are only two basses on my 'want' list; a vintage item that will come up eventually in the right condition and price at the right time and a Status Mark King.
