I've never been one to sit and complain about the current music situation but.......

My faith in the future of music was just shaken. I just saw a live performance of Tatu on Last Call With Carson. I remember seeing their video a few weeks ago, which was basically a freaking porno. Then I saw their performance on Carson. Don't get me wrong, I love hot girl on girl action as much as the next guy and I'm not bothered at all by public homosexual displays of affection but what they are doing is just for a freaking gimmick. (not saying their sexual orientation is a gimmick, them being blatant about it on stage is) It wouldn't bother me if it actually had some artistic merit, but it's a ploy to sell some records. It's sad that music has cheapened this much. It also sucks that some of the real, serious lesbians are going to have a black mark on them because of these two idiots. If you are going to push buttons, at least push them for something more than shock value.

Sorry, just had to rant about something.

BTW, I'm not slamming them for being gay. I'm slamming them for using it as a marketing gimmick.

I know a few lesbians, and they say that they are sad.....(tatu)

They have been around a while, and I remember seeing their music video a LONG time ago. They are OBVIOUSLY useing it as a marketing ploy. I have nothing aginst gay people at all, but this is just for promotion. Ellen doesnt go around making out every five seconds or wear freaking mini skirt school girl outfits. Not using "Ellen" as a model, just, oh i don't know. Tatu SUCKS.

I think it is indeed very sad - I heard the Russian producer say in a TV interview that he wanted them to look "underage" as well.

So - we really need more encouragement for Paedophiles!!

  5. I remember reading somewhere that one of the girls was 15 when the video was filmed too....

Personally, I just can't watch it - it's so cheap and tacky, it's just horrible.

I read somewhere that they are actually 17 and 18. I don't know if that's underage in Russia or not.

But, I'm not sure they actually are lesbians - it really is a gimmick.

Well their actual age is irrelevent - he was saying that he wanted them to look "under age" - that was the Market he was trying to appeal to....

Being from their homeland (russia) I could tell you quite a bit of dirt on 'em. Their manager/creator, a talented ex-advertising agency employee wanted to become a music video director but no-one would let him film themselves so he decided to create a on-off 'band' project just to direct their video. Out come the two not even hot underage bitches with very questionable talent and voila! he got a gig fillming a stupid primal vid and the biggest album sales ever in Russia. They are the first project from here to make it big worldwide and it makes me ashamed as we got quite a few decent 'real' bands that deserve recognition. The teenage underage sex thing payed off. The only thing that they ever did that appealed to me was when they were in the states doing the Jay Leno show, they wore identical white sweaters with two Russian words embroided on 'em. The words: **** and War.
    Have a good day everyone:bassist:

Their single "All The Things She Said" is one of the most blatant examples of AutoTune that I've ever heard, too :)

Never heard of them. I make it a point to ignore as much flavour-of-the-month pop music as possible.

I've tried to avoid it as much as possible and don't listen to radio that plays this kind of stuff - but it has been in the news in England as it got to No 1 in the charts and was cited by all the news programmes as a prime example of how the charts are now entirely Marketing-driven, rather than music-lead! :(

I can see how it'd be harder to avoid in the UK Bruce - when I was over there it seemed to be on almost every channel, what with all the S Club 7 shows, Pop Stars and all that junk... it seems to me to be more easy to avoid over here!

Thankfully, the "Cheeky Girls" never made it big over here! :meh:

  15. i fully support TATU and give them my blessing to make out on my TV whenever their little hearts desire.

    Right on Dancehall,
I saw them on the Jimmy Kimmel show, they put a hand over their mouths as they were kissing, all seems like a big gimmik. The song was very artificial, but; I liked it. I have no logical reason for this, I normally hate pop, but I liked the song. Lots of electronic things going on to enhance their voices if they are even really singing, but its catchy.

I'm pretty sure that's legal here too...I believe the law has a 2 year gray area in either direction. (16 with 18 is illegal, but not 16 with 20..etc.)
Anyway...I find them very obnoxious- anythign popular is near impossible to ignore in the US when you live in a major metro area. Somethin' in the news said they are't really homosexual, and its just a publicity stunt, but who knows...At any rate, there is more than enough porn flying around as it is- we don't really need it being flung in our face with the rest of the pop music scene.

That's exactly my view and I don't see why "sexualising" pop music, basically aimed at young teenagers is anything to be encouraged! :(

It's just not funny either - when you see children picking up on this sort of thing - so like my sister-in-law's nine year old daugther dancing around to the Cheeky Girls song "touch my bum".
