I'm looking for a 5 string Jazz style Bass. I want something that will/can sound good with a little modification. I owned a Lakland 55-02 which was great but I wasn't crazy about it. I have also tried the G&L tributes... Anyone tried the Schecter California Customs?

I own a few great soundingbasses and want to get a great sound without a lot of money. I want a "working mans" 5 string that I can leave in the car and not feel guilty about. Anyone tried the KSD jazz bass?

    Opinions greatly appreciated

    Thanks!!

If you can find a used Skyline Osborne 5, you could probably pick it up for under $1000. They are great J-basses - particularly for the money. I would have no issue using a JOB5 on any gig.

I am heavily leaning toward a Fender J Bass. Just wondering if there is anything else... With the Fender J Bass. Wasn't that impressed with the S-1 switching, but I thought the bass was pretty good. If I get it (which I probably will) I plan on putting a new preamp (aguilar or Sadowsky) adding a Hipsot bridge and getting aero pickups....

I know... by the time I do all of this I could've bought a Sadowsky...

  6. be careful, from what i hear fender 5 b strings=crap

I agree. The KSD basses are excellent value for money, but the JOB5 is great.

I have 2 recent fender 5s that I love. One Deluxe and one Standard, You could certainly find one of those within your budget. Mine both have Sadowsky electronics in them and are absolute monsters.

  9. Look for a used 5 string Trace Elliot T-Bass. They are wicked if you want a more modern tone.

You won't hear that from me. The B on mine is fine.

Are these 18volt? Did you have to move the input jack to the side??

The B string on both of my Fender 5's is fine, besides I use the sparingly anyway.

Why used? You could buy a new Skyline JO5 for (slightly) under $1000. :)

Try a Hamer 2-Tek Cruise- it's a great take on the J. You'd have plenty of room for electronics, as I recall, since it's rear-routed. The ones I tried (and almost bought) were pretty nice, they felt good in my hands and also sounded great. With a nice pre they'd have been deadly. I see them on the bay every once in a while for not too much dough. The 2-Tek bridge is great for sustain.

  17. Please, don't leave any bass in your car at any time. Thieves will bust your windows for an empty case.

I'll sometimes go from work to a gig and I want to leave it in the trunk (Yeah I know all the reasons I shouldn't..)
