J-Pickups for fretless?

Discussion in 'Pickups & Electronics [BG]' started by c-ba55, Feb 6, 2001.

  1. Wondering what are some good J-pickups for fretless bass.
I have a MIM Fender Jazz, and would like
    a) less noise
    b) less hum
    c) less noise
    d) more natural tone (capture the acoustic tone better, but still have "J" sound, not piezo)
    e) did I mention less noise?

The bass actually sounds quite fine acoustically, and plays like a dream. Electronics are obviously where Fender saved a lot of money here.

Lane Poors if you could get them; I've seen a couple go by on ebay and probably should have snagged them myself.

I really hope Lane resurfaces and starts manufacturing pickups again.
  3. I put them on my Mexi Jazz and Squier Jazz. Love em. No noise at all. Split coil humbucking, so no noise even when running only one pickup.

  4. Are there pickups that are particularly good at the fretless thing, and if so, what makes them that way?
