I'd also like to know what some of you think are the best J-pickups out there.

I think your question would be better served int he Pickups section.

I have Bartolini single coils on a custom J bass. I prefer the Fender OEM alnico pickups on my USA Jazz V.

I want to replace the pickups on my bass... what are some good passive jazz pickups that are great for slapping?

  4. does anyone know what jazz pickups would give me a deep, VERY punchy, yet has plently of treble, pickup? i guess i want something like the "smiley face" MM pickup, without the humbucker style.

How would you compare a "typical" (if there is such a thing) J-pickup to a humbucker.

Deep low-end? solid mids? clear highs?

And what is that "J-bass sound" that I'm always hearing people refer to?
