    Hey all,
First post here at TB. Background of 20 years playing guitar but recently asked to play bass with a group that gigs every week, so I am a bass newbie (though I have played them in the past this will be my first bass guitar and dont have a lot of money to play with or start out with something that wont last and require an upgrade)

I have an opportunity to pick up a Jackson CMG Bass with case for 450 used. (It is the transparent blue.) Do any of you guys have any thoughts on it.

Here is what it looks like.

Or should I go for the Essex SPJ-62 and case from Rondo for about 160?

    Thoughts?

    Thanks,
    UJ

the Jackson should be fine, but its pointy headstock & styling make it look like a late-80's throwback... fine if you're going for a retro-metal hair band look but not to everyone's taste :)

i'd personally get a Fender J or P but the Jackson will do the job and sound alright
