Jaco covered Hendrix?

Discussion in 'Recordings [BG]' started by relman, Jan 2, 2002.

  1. Is this true? Are there Jaco covers of Hendrix stuff? I've heard about this from a few sources, and i was wondering if anyone here has accessed such material...

Jaco usually quoted Hendrix's "Third Stone From The Sun" during his featured solo spot...Jaco would play the melody, then kick in the distortion, & flail.
You can see this on the Shadows & Light video/DVD.
I can only imagine what other Hendrix tunes may have 'covered' in the myriad of loose jams he participated in later in his life("Manic Depression" sounds like a cool tune to Jaco-fy..."Fire", too!).

Well, at least he didn't do the lighter-fluid thing.

'Purple Haze' can be found as part of a 3 song medley on "Live from New York, Vol. 4."
