JACO PASTORIUS' bass for sale on eBay!

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by David Henry, Jul 15, 2005.

  1. You would think that for this kind of money, there would be some very solid proof of authenticity. So it has 3 knobs, and in some fuzzy pictures he's holding a bass that looks like this. Whoopie.

I can't help but be skeptical about that one....

    I have a picture of jamerson's autograph :)

Not the same, but off the walls of the rock n' roll hall of fame!

Norman's is a pretty reputable shop...can't see them trying to pull what would be an OBVIOUS rip off like that.

The autographs are also signed to Norman, which sounds pretty up and up to me.

Well, I couldn't justify spending over $14,999.00 for a Jazz and they won't throw in shipping so I'll pass.

You don't think that someone, somewhere, would pay 15K to have a REAL piece of Jaco's life...and a tool that he's known to have used in his early formative years...of their very own?

    I do.

That said, I don't really care for Jaco.

I think it will be snapped up pretty quickly. Doesn't Greg Rzab have the Bass of Doom?
  11. I do think people who pay that. Especially in people in the USA :smug:
Although there isn't real evidence to me that this bass really has been Jaco's

Might be, might not be, doesn't matter. It's been refinished. Dumpster bait if I saw one.

    Where's his 'burst'?

Last I read, he claims he sold it to another well known bassist who chooses to remain anonymous.

I've seen vintage axes going for over $7000. Paying twice that amout for a bass with that pedigree doesn't seem that outrageous.

It's a pity that instruments like that which are meant to be played and should belong to musicians end up in the hands of collectors never to see the light of day again.

    Jazzin' ...Bluesin' and Funkin'

    Not true at all.

If they wanted to show more proof, why didn't they take more pictures?
    Why are there frets?
Why does it not look like Jaco's bass?
Pictures and memorbilia don't prove anything.

I think people are getting confused...this isn't 'the bass of doom' that's the super famous one. This one, supposedly is his FIRST bass, a different early 60's jazz, and from the copy, it looks like he's the one who did the mods.

The seller is fairly well known too.

The pictures are made out to the seller (look at the names), proving they knew each other.
