whats a really good jaco pastorius song?? i want to download some of his stuff, but i dont know what one
Alot of people seem to really enjoy "Portrait of Tracy". Another is "Contiuum" IMO I think both are boring and nothing to rave about, which sometimes makes me wonder why people like him so much?
Three Views of a Secret is one of his coolest songs, quite dark and enigmatic. Teen Town is a must-have. He did both songs with Weather Report.
i really dig anything off of the night passage album, or heavy weather, mr. gone, 8:30, debut, word of mouth, bright size life, weather report... I think the whole "Night Passage" album is really exiting, so you may like that one more than others. EDIT: Today is his 50th b-day, BTW.
Uhm... Unless I'm mistaken (which I often am at this time of night when I still have homework to finish) I think he actually wrote Teen Town. My personal favorites (of what I own of his music so far) are Come On, Come Over off his self-titled debut album, and Birdland off of Weather Report's "Heavy Weather" album.
i have this quicktime movie of him playing "amerika" on some tv show... it was hilarious! (there was another bass player that was stunned by jaco playing in front of him) very good song too!
hey JR, i have the exact same opinion on Blink 182 but that's me (i guess i can now forget about being in your top 5 TB'ers LOL )
Well, I think "Cannonball" was the first tune Jaco recorded as he joined Weather Report. "Barbary Coast", from Black Market, has that patented 1/16th note muted Funk groove happenin'. Same goes for "The Dry Cleaner From Des Moines"(from Joni Mitchell's Mingus album). Discounting the amount of technique required- From a composer's point of view, how can either "POT" or "Continuum" be considered 'boring'? I'm with you, Dave. C'mon, Jr...
yeah, we are pro-Jaco... we can´t change your mind but please don´t throw at us that "he´s boring" thing that kids today like to do... he might be boring to you but to me he´s pretty good listening... too bad i can´t find many albums down here (while Blink albums are EVERYWHERE)
Dave and Jim... I never said they were bad, infact I think they are great, just they are borrrrrrrring. So slow and dreamlike.....i can probably fall asleep to that when I'm not even sleepy.
Jr- I hope I'm still around in 5 years or so; hopefully, we can talk more about this! If you want something 'un-slow', check out "Used To Be A Cha-Cha" & "Crisis"; the latter is a pretty dark piece...maybe Jaco's notion of what schizophrenia would 'sound' like. Very disturbing. If either of those are too esoteric, make an attempt at some Joni Mitchell Pop w/ Jaco...the 1st tune from Shadows & Light, "In France They Kiss On Main St." is an ass-kickin' opener. That tune has never failed to bring a smile to my face; IMHO, some very happenin' interactive accompaniment by a bassist/musician that wasn't afraid to take chances within a fairly rigid Pop song.
Hey JR, Jaco is pretty damn boring, eh? Maybe he should be original and play straight power chords! (just kiddin' J, I loves ya! )
