  1. Hey all, when reading on these forums, the name Jaco appears all the time...

I hate to be an ignorant ameteur but who is this guy? From what band? or is he a soloist? Is he still alive?

Is his music downloadable? Or possible to try and play?

  2. jaco pastorious
he was in weather report (right guys?)
    and solo stuff
    he's dead now
    he was incredible

  3. Jaco Pastorius is said by many, if not most, to be the greatest bass player to have ever lived. I'd reccomend his self titled album, Word of Mouth, and he was in Weather Report, check out their albums too(heavy weather, black market). If you wanna download stuff, try Portrait of Tracy, Donna Lee, Chromatic Fantasy, or Opus Pocus.

He played on 4 joni mitchell albums:
    -Heijira
    -Don Juan's Reckless Daughter
    -Mingus
    -Shadows and Light

His album with Pat Metheny, "Bright Size Life" is an other great one.

Of course fretlesses were available before Jaco, though not in the profusion they are today. Jaco's immediate predecessor in WR, Alphonso Johnson, was playing fretless before Jaco got in the band. A friend of mine owned a Hohner fretless back in the early '70s, and I doubt they were the only ones available.
