Our community orchestra conductor wants to create a smaller chamber orchestra using more "period instruments" to play Corelli's Christmas Concerto in Gb. He asked me if I could put a set of strings on my bass that sounded more "rope like" than what I have now, which are Flexocor '92s. I have a set of Jagars at home, and they do sound much more rope-like and dark than the Flex's. The Flex's are a bit bright on my 3/4 bass (but not as bright as Helicores). If I make the switch, it would only be for this one concert. Would the Jagars do the trick for a "baroque" sound? I'm not going to buy gut strings, and he didn't ask me to. Thanks, Brian
Well, it's a bit relative - why don't you try out the Jargars with your conductor present? And why do you rule out gut? That is the baroque sound.....
Agreed! Though here is a set of eudoxas really cheap if you hurry! http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=152248
