I have a really good-playing Mex P bass - the neck is fine, just don't really love it. I played an AVRI 62 some time back, and I absolutely love that neck. I don't know why, but that big neck feels most comfortable to me.

With both kids AND the wife in college, there is no hope of landing a 62 reissue anytime soon. I was looking at the Japanese-made 62 necks on ebay from Stratosphere and wondering if a) they are pretty much like the American 62, and b) will it fit on my Mex Pbass? I have emailed them, but have yet to hear anything back.

    Anybody know anything about this?

I'm pretty sure they interchange, but I don't have any experience other than swapping out MIM/MIA/Warmoth ("licensed by Fender") necks on a couple of basses. I'd imagine that it would make more sense to make all of them alike, in case there was an occasion to say, make necks for MIM Fenders in Japan.

You may be feeling the difference in fretboard radius (higher crown in the '62) and "vintage" frets (much smaller on the '62). I have three Ps with the small frets and 7.25" fingerboard, and I love 'em. I wish it were cost-effective to refret my SR5 with them -- it has medium jumbos.

You're probably right about the radius being part of that feel....I have played guitar for more years than I can remember (!), and I have a 58 Strat I have had since 1973, and that's part of it right there.
