Newsted has an awesome tone both clean and distorted. I've been trying to match his tone but I haven't found it yet. I'm playing a Squier Jaguar Troy Sanders edition bass, with a Big Muff Pi through a small Ampeg 25Watt amp (planning on upgrading soon). I'm wondering what settings he uses on his Big Muff for his distorted tone and what settings he uses on his amp. I mainly play with a pick so I've already got that down and my amp only has a 3 band eq (low, mid, high). What eq settings and Big Muff settings would give me a similar tone?

Example video (clean and distorted tone):

That's not a Muff, that's a heavy overdrive. Aside from that, boost your midrange, get some fresh steel strings and have fun.
