    Hi all – new to the whole bass guitar but have been wanting to take it up for a while.

    I am a fan of Jason Newsted and there is a solo that Jason played when he was with Metallica – not even sure if it had an actual name – but for those familiar it would be before James would leave the stage and its even on their live album: Jason starts playing a little intro and James sings: “Hail Satan if you please......” – anyone have the tabs to that little intro?

    :)

  2. I remember seeing a live performance on YouTube with James talking and Jason was playing "Born Under a Bad Sign" by Albert King. When James leaves, Jason plays "Aenesthesia: Pulling Teeth". Is that what you're talking about?

  4. That's the exact clip I was talking about. He's just playing a variation of Born Under a Bad Sign By Albert King. I attached a tab for it...

    I think the recording is doing something screwy. The bass sounds like it's coming straight off the board and way louder than it would normally be.

  9. Not sure if you're still looking for this song or not but I just uploaded a tab of the original Albert King version. I can't link to it according to the new forum because of my "like ratio" and my "likes received" are at zero...not sure what that has to do with posting a link but I'd be happy to send it to you in a private message if you're looking for it...

    EDIT...just saw that I already posted a tab for the Albert King version...horrible memory!

    Here's the best advice that you probably don't want to hear, but I feel compelled to offer anyway:

    Transcribe it. There are not that many notes here and they center very tightly around a tonal center and a theme. It really won't be that hard. Also, the rhythm and timing in this is at least equally important to the notes and tab doesn't communicate that especially well.

    If it took you a year, it would make you a much better musician and be totally worth the effort. But, it really shouldn't take that long once you get into it.

    //end of unwanted, unsolicited advice//

    I wholeheartedly concur with TroyK's unsolicited advice.

    Additionally, the bass solo is not based around Cliff Burton's "Anesthesia: Pulling Teeth". After the "Born Under a Bad Sign" intro bit, the primary theme is the opening bass line from "My Friend of Misery" off the Black album.

    Yeah, but it could be tougher for the OP. Transcription is a muscle that has to be developed. Well worth the investment in yourself as a musician, though
