jazz 5 active/passive

    can i replace the active pickups with passive ones and not have to put batteries in anymore?

    FWIW:

    you can if you don't have a preamp in the bass, but active pups also usually have an onboard preamp for controls - though not necessarily. Are you sure the pups are active and not passive with an onboard preamp - which is the typical scenario.

    Basically you need a battery to run either a onboard preamp OR active pups but they can both run off the same battery.

    Usually batteries last months so it's not a frequent issue.
