I've got a 62 re-issue Jazz. Every time my fingers are in contact with the strings and moving it is producing a high frequency hissing, spitting, crackling sound.

I'm assuming that it is the bass causing this because I've tried it through 2 different amps, 2 different cabs and I've changed all the leads. Amps and cabs are a Schroeder 1210L, BFM Omni10, MarkBass LMII and Ashdown ABM500 FWIW.

    Anyone got any ideas?

I should add that if I've got one hand already in contact with the strings it doesn't do it. So does this sound like some sort of earthing problem?

  4. It sounds like a ground. Remove the bridge and see if the ground wire is making contact with the bridge. Its supposed to. Sometimes it embeds into the paint so it no longer has a good contact with the bridge. If so, pull it out and reposition it so it makes a good contact with the bridge once you screw it back down.
My MTD Saratoga did that a few months after I bought it. It would hiss and make noice when I toughed the strings. Did the same and it went away. That was 4 years ago!

Yeah definatly a grounding problem. I was gonna say check your cables, but if it stops when you have your hands on the strings its a ground issue.

Ah ok. Thanks I'll have a look under the bridge.
