I don't know about availability and pricing in your area, but Sandberg makes great Jazz basses. Built by hand in Germany, great components and quality. Mostly active electronics (by Glockenklang, can be used passive, as well), but the Jazz is available passive only, too.

I chose my 4 string passive in direct comparison to Fender Jazzes of the same price range (Geddy Lee and other MIJ, American Standard). I liked the Sandberg better in every regard. YMMV.

How about a custom built by johnk_10? He builds some very nice basses and has a great reputation here on Talkbass.

It's a swamp ash body with Dimarzio Ultra Jazz pups & it's passive. It's LIGHT too. Dan does a great nitrocellulose finish & I had him relic it (and he's one of the best at it IMHO). The large running grain in the swamp ash makes it look extra warm & it beckons you every time you walk by it or look at it. If you look at Dan's website (& he's a TB member) you will see many other fine Jazz basses in all sorts of cool configurations. You will also see that his prices are quite reasonable compared to others. I use flats (EBs) and this bass has a nice growl when you want it & huge thump as well....delicious!
