Hey everyone! I hope it's ok to post a new thread here. This week I'm dropping a daily videos (7 videos total) checking out 5 different jazz bass preamps from four different manufacturers - Lusithand, John East, Sadowsky, and Audere (two from them). I'll post all the videos here as they release. Today's video is just the introduction with the first install and demo coming tomorrow.
I was thinking, hmm, where's Nordstrand. But then I realized the point of these videos is preamps made for Jazz basses, complete with control plates. So I get it now..... I'm a John East J Retro fan, so I definitely look forward to the whole series of videos. Thanx!
Here's the next installment featuring the J Retro Deluxe from John East UK. Enjoy! Btw, the bass control is BOOST ONLY on the J Retro Deluxe. I didn't realize it at the time. Oops!
One of the unique features of the J Retro Deluxe treble is that it boosts @ 3k but cuts @ 1k. This boosts at a good frequency for fingerstyle to cut through and cuts the gank, scooping at the right place for a good slap tone. John East - J Retro Deluxe - Best Bass Gear
I agree with your assessment of the Sadowsky's simpler tone magic and have an ash/pau ferro 5-string jazz build in progress with this preamp.
Audere 2BT for me, but always other variables in play with regards to what it couples with. Got a flexicore with Nordstrands coming and I expect that combo to sound 'strong' in its influence. Whether that works for me is the key because I generally back off on the scope pre amps can have which is why I'm not a fan of East..they have a lot of unusable range which you pay for.
Hey everyone! We've finally reached the end of the Ultimate Jazz Bass Preamp Guide! Thank you all for watching and I hope you all found it informative and entertaining!
