So I was on Musiciansfriend looking at some Jazz Basses and noticed that the US Vintage 62 Jazz Bass has only 2 knobs. Now i have seen John Paul Jones of Led zeppelin play his '62 Jazz Bass and it has 3 knobs, can somebody explain this.
Also how much of a difference is a classic '62 Mexican Jazz Bass then just and American?

Actually, I believe the '62 had the three knob setup. Why Fender decided to use the stack-knob setup for the '62 RI I couldn't say. The stack-knob configuration was the way the Jazz originally came out in, I believe, 1960 and was discontinued for the 1962.

Edit: The MIM '60s bass is really pretty nice but has, as I recall, a thicker neck profile than the MIA '62 RI. Given a choice I would take the MIA bass.
