I have a 1983 MIJ Squier jazz bass. It looks like I may well acquire a MIJ Fender jazz as well. I am going to have one of them defretted (yes, I know about neck instability probs, and I am doing this carefully with the best available professional help). The Squier is about to be refinished. The Fender is pretty scratched, too. I was thinking of refinishing both at the same time in exactly the same way...a sort of beigy off-white with TS pickguard. Now. Would it be cool to have a matched pair of jazz basses, on fretted one fretless, or would it look stupid? What do you think?
Andy, I dont think it would look stupid, but pretty cool. If it were me, I would have the Squier defretted. Nice colour, what does it cost in Turkey for a decent paint job?
Not a lot....twenty quid. Which one I defret depends on a thorough analysis of the basses. The one with the most stable neck loses the frets. I can swap the bodies around as well, of course. The wonder of Fenders!
