I was hoping to find a jazz bass body template thingy.. In a few weeks I'm going to start building my neck thru jazz fretless, and I want the body to be exact. My other designs don't have to be that exact, but I want this one to turn out perfect. Is there any where I can order one? I don't want to borrow my friend's squier and trace it :p.

I bought a set of Jazz bass plans from mimf.com a couple of years ago. They were drawn by Jason Lollar to a high degree of accuracy. My plan was to make the J bass body. Then I saw a swamp ash body on Warmoth for $175 and I figured it was WAY cost effective to buy the body. Well, I compared the drawing to the "Fender Licensed" Warmoth body and they were off by quite a bit. The overall sizes were different, the neck pocket was different, as were the pickup routes. My guess is that Fender has made bodies with subtle differences over the years. In the old days of pin routers, a fair amount of inconsistency could creep in over time. With today's soulless CNC routers, all the J basses from a given factory should be identical. If you want to make an exact copy, I guess you should ask yourself which one: an old one or a new one. As I mentioned mimf has drawings of an old one and maybe you could find a new Warmoth body on eBay to act as a pattern for a new one.
