Newbie, to the forums, with wiring questions... Other options are welcome, too... It's been almost 30 years, since I last wired ANY bass (Not counting loose connections). What I did in the early '80s, I don't know how to do, anymore. Could use some Guru help. I've asked line6man and he suggested I post here... The 'Bumblefoot' wiring, from Searcy, looks off... http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_d5koB_YNDyY/SkJqj3cEbcI/AAAAAAAAAb0/gRl1YJRNSww/s1600-h/BumbleFoot.jpg This looks better...(2 humbuckers/5-way rotary switch/1-volume/1-tone... near bottom of page) http://www.guitarelectronics.com/category/wiringresources.2_pickup_diagrams/ Don't want to cut into the bass, so I'm limited to three pots... What I want is to be able to play with as many variations as possible. Guess I'm 'Hunting' for myself. Haven't had a bass in a while, so forgive me my stupid questions... Thanks, Jeff
OK, I like that, but was planning to split the coils and hit some phasing. The more options the merrier. I admit, Sophomoric mistake... a 5-position switch is a 5-position switch, whether straight or rotary. Does the exact same job. Great call. For my own part: "Doh."
Seymour Duncan Triple Shot has them, two 2-position switches (maybe 3-position) S/D ays they're 'rocker switches', so I presume them to be 2-pos. Aaargh!
Whatever works... Should be the original Yamaha soap-bars. 3 knobs. I think it's 1 vol and 2 tone, but don't quote me on that. One has a push feature that kicks the sound out... I really have forgotten a lot of stuff. I'm open to making it the next toy, you know? Split coil humbuckers is the goal. Could really go for those new blade- humbuckers... Price is an object, but I can nickel and dime it into the ground... The mission is to design the wiring, then make the list and star ordering. It's a mid-'80s bass that feels right. Sound needs improvement, bet on it. I plan to yank the original stull and put it in a plastic tub... Anything we come-up with, that works, is going in. Heck, I'm still trying to find the same style strings I had...
S/D Forums say the rings only have 2 wires to the regular controls... So, they hook-up with those limitations. Keep original type connections? Double Aargh!!! I HATE switching logic. Good thing I have a cold drink at hand! I've asked for a wiring diagram, but I presume that each switch kills or connects one side of the pickup. Otherwise, it makes no sense, to me. If that's the case, what are the limitations/abilities?
For anyone who's missing it, the problem i found with that diagram was that the output from the switch to the volume pot is hardwired to ground. The output is muted at all positions.
The SD triple shot is a mounting ring for standard sized guitar humbuckers... If you have soapbar pickups, those won't fit in the mounting ring.
My bad. They're supposed to be Double J's, according to one review. Been too long and I don't remember. I admit my ignorance and humbly apologize. My education is lacking. Been digging through so much stuff that I'm getting frazzled. Bass here, look at this house, where's the paperwork, better schools for the kids, that one has to ride a bus, or maybe all of them, where's the cat food,... AAAaaarrgh!!!
By the end of the week, I'll know exactly what I have. Then, I'll know more of what I can do with it. To me, the bass is the thing. I'll probably run RotoSounds, rework the electrics and carve a bone nut for it, like I did the Washburn Acoustic/Electric I had. I'll wing it. Seems to work, why fight it? Thanks for the help. I'll post-up what I do, after it's done. Anyone's welcome to point me in the right direction. Thanks to those who have tried.
