    Hello fellow TBers,

I'm soliciting opinions on what bassists to include in a piece I'm writing for publication on influential jazz composers who have moved the language forward. Players can be electric or upright but I'm mainly focusing on jazz in all of its flavors as opposed to classical or pop/rock songwriters. Obvious players I'm already working on include: Charles Mingus, Dave Holland, Jaco, Steve Swallow, Ben Allison... you get the idea.

    Who else and why?

    Thanks very much.

Oh, I recently started blogging at http://www.jazzunderneath.blogspot.com

David Friesen has written a number of great tunes. Very interesting melodically and pretty advanced in terms of harmony and form. There is a 10 bar blues of his, Wrap up (I think) that I've played a bit.
    Just my .02.
