Man, those cats are brutal! They form a band of students on stage and have them perform a jazz standard. Afterwards the instructors critique it. The students are VERY good, but they have people like Christian McBride, Joshua Redman, Herbie Hancock, Donald Byrd, Brian Blade, Willard Jenkins, Lee Ritenour, etc. that calls the students out in front of everyone, when they hit a clam or if they stray from the melody an inch! It's VERY instructional and the students seem to take it in stride, but I suspect they tear up later on. I have to admit, if I was there, I'd probably sob uncontrolably! Like I said, it's not meanspirited, but it is brutally honest. It takes place @ the Monk Institute for Jazz Studies.
