Jazz pickguards...........

  1. I'm not exactly sure where this should be, so I'm putting it here.

I recently purchased a Fender Standard Jazz Bass 5-string and I love it. I want to customize it a little, though, to make it my own. I've already got ideas about pickups, and I wanna save up for a J-Retro preamp. But I also wanna change the pickguard I have now, and I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE TO START. The bass is black, and the current pickguard is white. I was thinking between these three colors for the PG:

    1. Brown tortoiseshell.
    2. Black.
    3. Mirror/Silver-shiny.

Not only do I want your opinions on what pickguard you would like best, I also need to know WHERE TO GET IT. I have no idea where I can get it. Elderly, maybe (I live in GR, Michigan, so Elderly isn't a long drive).

    Please help.........

  2. back with tortoise is always good looking.. in fact, I think all colors are good looking with Tortoise :) Silver might also be cool (almost like the picutre at the J-retro page) :D Black on black is pretty boring, but its certainly not bad looking..

Ummm this might go better in Accesories.. but thats not my job :D

just dont use a pickgaurd, i think it looks better if theres not any holes or electronics showing. A black 3 ply with a white middle might also look cool.

I would go with black pearloid if I were you. I always thought those looked sharp on black.

You can get one of those (or anything else, really) at www.warmoth.com

    Good luck!

  5. Hey thanks.

But............it doesn't specify (on www.warmoth.com) on whether the pickguard will fit 5-string. I think it only makes sense that the neck is wider, the pickup "hole" is wider, just about everything is wider. Could I take an Exacto-Knife to it and make the guard to accomodate the added wideness?

Also, I have no idea what some of those colors mean. I mean, "celluloid"? What the hell color is THAT?

  6. White pearloid!

I did it to mine and it looks badass.

  7. Celluoid is not a color :) its the kind of plastic that the pickups are made out off. Some colors can only be made (at warmoth) from certain kinds of plastics, which very in price.

White pearloid is cool too

    Also try, www.pickguards.com

I think the silver or chome one might look pretty spiffy.

  10. Hey thanks. Now I'm stuck between "Brushed Steel" (my girlfriend really likes this one) or black/white/black for the cool white outline against the black finish (everybody else likes this one). I, personally like both a lot.

    How 'bout you guys?

The plastic will be too strong for custom cutting with an Xacto knife. You'll need the specific 5 string pickguard.

http://www.mightymite.com/ has pickguards but probably not a 5 string. http://members.home.com/pickguards/home.htm made a custom white pearloid guard for my USA made Jazz V a couple years ago. They did a fantastic job but it was quite expensive ($60 includiung shipping).
