Jazz standards

  1. Ok, don't flame me.... What are some jazz standards? I've heard the term, and I've been wanting to get into jazz and I think a good place to start listening and playing would be the standards. Can anybody point me in the right directions?

They live in a magical book i keep in my gun safe, about 300 songs copied, transposed, handwritten, notated, and otherwise abused in mostly alphabetical order that earned me enough money to pay and party through a lot of college.

If you want to really learn the bass, buy a real book ( actual name is "the new real book" ) there are around 3 versions I think - find recordings of those tunes and go to town learning the bass lines. Some of the greatest music ever written. I don't care if your into funk or metal if you can play jazz your going to be great at any genre
