Jazz string spacing on Precision B-width nut?

I've got an old B-width (1.625" at nut) Precision neck (actually, it's an old replacement neck, I presume, since it has no decal). I don't like the string spacing at the nut, and I was wondering: have any of you ever put in a new nut on a P neck so that the strings were spaced like a Jazz?

There would be 0.07" or so of extra fingerboard on each side, and I'm wondering if that would be noticeable or feel weird.

EDIT: the "extra" fingerboard would be most at the nut, of course, and would pretty much be gone by the 7th fret or so.
