It's time for me to boast a bit. I'm due anyway, as I really haven't been to too many shows for a long time. I go to see Elvin Jones Thursday, 17-Apr. Then, The Funk Brothers on Tuesday, 22-Apr. Then, Brian Bromberg on Wednesday, 23-Apr. That, my friends, is an excellent week.
We are jealous! But what about my last month and the future stuff I have ahead of me: March 4: Steve Smith's Vital Information March 11: Mike Stern (with Chrish Minh Doky on bass!) April 1: Scott Henderson April 4: Terry Bozzio April 16: Porcupine Tree May 2: Peter Gabriel (LEVIN ON BASS!) But cool that you have so many cool things to look forward too! Wendy
Oh yea? What about when I saw Tool Oct 27, 2001? Or when I saw Tool July 31, 2002? Or when I saw Tool November 8, 2002? Or when I'm going to see Tool September 12, 2004? Heh. Needless to say, the music scene in New Orleans sucks (or is great, if you're into blues). Occasionally I'll go see a local band, but rarely, and even more rarely do I like them. I can't believe I missed Aloke Dutta when he came here!
Dude, move to the netherlands (and get yaself a second job as a Stagemanager so you can c all the cool stuff and work with all the peeps) Wendy
Hey JB, who's Bromberg playing with? Is he playing Realbass or Slab? You, my man, are one lucky dude. Enjoy!
I'll be at the Stanley show in Atlanta, too, Woodchuck--that is, if it isn't sold out yet. I keep forgetting to go the Variety Playhouse to get tickets. Oh, and then there's Jazz Fest in New Orleans from April 24th-to April 27th. I think I might be able to find a couple of decent acts while I'm there....
I'm really bummed about missing the Funk Brothers on April 9th in Boston. Enjoy the show and yes I am jealous.....
Going to see Trip Wamsley tonight at a little neighborhood bar. He's sitting in with some locals doing old covers - should be interesting.
Oh YEAH, People? Two weeks ago tonight I saw Jane Monheit, and seeing Jane Monheit is like a royal flush in poker, so there! Need more of an explanation? Here's what it's like, folks: 1) Dying and going to heaven. 2) Seeing Jane Monheit 3) The wife/girlfriend says, "I'm drunk, let's go home." 4) Waking up on what you think is Friday morning and realizing it's Saturday. 5) Tube sound from a solid state amp. I could go on, but, I won't. Jazzbo, enjoy. That's some lineup. Mike
Oh! That's what I should have done all along. Thanks for the tip. See ya soon. Gutentag. Bassmonkeee, what say we get together and play each other's basses (read: I'll play your cool stuff, and you'll laugh at mine)?
Thank you sir, thank you. Oddly enough, it's the Funk Brothers show that I'm looking most forward to. Gark Meek - sax/flutes Tom Zink - keys Joel Taylor - drums Although, I truly don't know what bass he'll be playing. This is a promo tour for his "Jaco" CD, and most of the set should be from that album. Also, all three of those tickets, total, ran me $54. Not bad.
