WOW - Guy Nsangue is an amazing player as seen in the below video.
I'm wondering if he is playing a modified Guild Pilot or a Jackson or what.

Jean Luc is on tour now with Keith Jones on bass. Looking forward to seeing that show in a couple weeks!

Jones is a great player, he used to tour with Ponty back in the 80's.

This was my first exposure to Keith Jones. Great playing and feel. I have a couple of fabulous Kit Walker CDs.

I've seen JLP many times over the years with different bands, the first time was with Frank Zappa in 1972.

This should be a great tour, I hope they come to my neck of the woods.

  4. JLP has been consistent putting on good shows every time I have been lucky to see him in any format whether his band, Rite of Strings, RTF IV. My personal favorite shows were with Holdsworth and Ralphe Armstrong.

Guy Nsangue absolutely kills it. He is from Cameroon and that video clip is circa 1991. Despite using a pointy headed non boutique bass with duct tape on it, he gets great music (probably to the bafflement of many TBers.)

I first saw JLP with Zappa around 1972 and became a big fan through the 90s..

I have a few of his CDs, and saw him a couple of times, in L.A. in the late '80s, and several years ago at Night Town, near where I live.

With some artist you can pick any spot in their career and they have excellent choices in the bassist they employ, Ponty is one of them.

Yep. Ponty is almost up there with Miles Davis and Frank Zappa, in the sense that tenure in those bands became a career-defining milestone/calling card for whoever was talented enough to qualify.

[Edit: Does that sentence make sense?]
