From one of the sponsored listings below:

"Jeff Berlin, who has been called “the greatest bass player in the world”,"

Who ever said that? Well, maybe Rick Beato but I mean anybody real.

I'm not good enough myself to rate who's best among the best, but Jeff is very, very good. Intimidatingly so. The guy is too intense for me, kinda scares me in his lessons videos. Best? I really can't say.

I'm sure multiple people have said that. I seem to recall Geddy Lee saying something to that effect. Back in the late '70's-early '80's, Jeff was definitely one of the big 3.

I'm not sure of the point of this thread but Berlin has been a badass for close to a half century with amazing faculty on our chosen instrument. One of the greats! IMHO

Why take such offense to an advertisement? Jeff is VERY, VERY good. And he was really cool when I met him a NAMM a few years ago when he borrowed a bass from the booth I was working to have an impromptu jam.

No doubt. In the early '80s, I attended a clinic in one of our local music stores. His playing was extraordinary... his stories were even better.

Wait, did or does he play in Pink Floyd? I hear good things about them...

AFAIK there is no championship competition and no official voting, so it's all individual opinion and you know what they say about opinions.

I’m not a huge fan, and his absolutism is strange to me, BUT…
He takes the pedagogy of the electric bass VERY seriously, and was one of the first people with a national profile and a deep cv as a player to do so. He’s been raising the bar ever higher for electric bass instruction for over thirty years. There’s now other players in that space- Vic, Scott, etc. but he was really the first.
Even if (like me) you’re not interested in the genre or style he plays, I think we all owe him a debt of gratitude for “legitimizing” our instrument, and codifying aspects of it’s technique.

Jeff Berlin is the only bass player alive I'd ever pay to take a lesson from.

I take it all back. Of course "best" in the realm of music invokes total subjectivity or, as has been so wisely said on many occasions "to each their own".

Geddy Lee said it...several times...and he's pretty much real too.

It's not like we're talking about Mark Hoppus being called the greatest bass player. Of course there is no official ranking but Jeff Berlin is incredible and has been around doing his thing for decades. I don't know how he wouldn't be considered one of the greats.
