Has anyone used this pedal yet? I stumbled across JHS pedals this morning and really love the sound of this pedal as well as the Low Drive. As soon as I heard the panda samples I thought that it sounded exactly like my 70's svt cranked up. I then read the literature and sure enough, it's based on the svt circuit. I mean, this really sounds like a real svt turned up loud. The VT bass gets a similar sound but, not this exact and the panda doesn't sound as compressed as the vt. That overly compressed sounds is one of the big reasons that you can't totally cop the svt tone witht the VT. I would love to try both pedals. I could only find one guy on here who tried the low drive and he said that is was alittle weak in the low end.
iiiiiiiiiiiiiii'd probably find somebody that sells a SVT style OD that doesn't rip off small builders and say it's their own design. that kinda stuff always leaves a bad taste in my mouth and makes me not want to support a business.
I have the low drive and I love it. I will say it does lack a very minute bit of low end, but there is a new version with a toggle switch and I'm gonna send mine in to get it upgraded. My guitarist friend has a Boss distortion pedal modded by them called the Lexi drive under their mods section, and I've been using it on bass and it has a lot of low end and it's a guitar pedal.
Who are they supposed to be ripping off? I haven't heard any pedals that sounded quite like the low drive or the pandamonium especially. And lets be honest, if your building an overdrive, it's most likely a TS typed design that everyone has been using forever. Not really origional.
I think JHS had a run-in with Devi Ever (ripped of one of her circuits and sent messages to all her dealers BSing her). The low drive is a Tube Screamer. I would suggest the HAO Rust Ride (or Drive, I forget; the bass model) for SVT sounds if you don't get the Pandamonium.
Before stubling across the JHS pedals, I was seriosly looking at the Green Rhino and Ebs multidrive, leaning towards the rhino.
I had a Pandamonium for a while, beautiful sounding pedal. Lots of low end. A lot of the JHS distortions color the tone to sound like a specific sound, so you have to run your amp pretty flat otherwise you start sounding kinda wierd. Pandamoniums could range from a cranked SVT to almost an Acoustic 370 sound. C
yah. like Pollinator said, they ripped off the Hyperion Devi Ever pedal then bad-mouthed her a bunch. i'm not interested in them for their gear because they make guitar pedals and everything "bass" of their's i've tried was not friendly to my low end. doesn't really matter, there are WAY too many good companies that are upstanding, honest, wonderful people to deal with that there's no reason to support the ones that go down the scumbag road. again, don't keep up with them 'cause i have no interest in owning their stuff, but i believe they've ripped off other people's designs as well. again, doesna really matter. once intentionally is enough for me not to support a company. lol. BOOM.
I just put in an order for a tronographic rust box. It seems like the kind of grit that I go for, not a fuzz. I almost wanted to try an ebs multidrive but, it sounded alittle fuzzy and artificial in the clips. No tone controls either.
If that is true about Devi Ever, a good thing to do would be to organize a boycott of JHS until they repair the harm, e.g., a public apology, etc. That would be a great lesson for them and we could contribute to bringing them in line with moral standards rather than just dismissing them.
Kringle - i LOVE my Rusty. i use mine as the only preamp in my setup, it's just beautiful and ANGRY. i have a lot of buds that run i as an OD and adore it too. congrats! Kokokun - meh. again, there are enough builders out there that are on the up and up without being boycotted or pushed into morality that i'm fine with dismissing a company that's shady. and the thing is, i can't think of the other examples off hand and am way too lazy to do a search right now, but i believe there's other people's circuits they've stolen. for me, WAY rather go with people like SmallSound/BigSound or Wren & Cuff or Fuzzrocious or Iron Ether or FuzzHugger or SubDecay or.... all the guys that are doing their own interesting stuff and have a reputation of taking care of people that buy from them.
*** dude the low drive and the tube screamer are totally different besides the fact that they are overdrive. In all technicality all overdrives are the same, they just put in different caps, and such.
Groaaannn... There are MANY different ways of designing an od circuit, beyond just swapping capacitors.
What's especially facepalm-y about that is that JHS in particular is one of those builders who just takes existing designs and swaps a few caps and calls it his own... While some others actually design new circuits, or combine old ideas in novel ways that actually contribute to the market.
Now I feel guilty for owning a JHS (I owned 2 until about 45 minutes ago) pedal. I had no idea about the "behind the scene" story. Yikes.
I dont know what to take from this story about stealing designs, it sounds like JHS is in the wrong, but i'm sure they have a side to their story. also music companies talking about stealing designs of pedals (or anything) is just goofy. that being said, i really like my pandamonium and limeaid, i got a really good price on both pedals and they are really solid, and i will probably pick up a morning glory pretty soon if i find a good deal on one
Sounds just like a TS to me. They even put "tubescreamer" in the tags. And aside from this particular case, you need to stop talking completely out of your a**. You just contradicted yourself in two consecutive sentences. I'll give you 200 internets if you can find the "overdrive circuit" that everyone rips off.
