Have not seen that yet. He has developed so many great cabs, after you buy one he comes up with something completely different and as I say, a different flavor of awesome. And then followed by another. So much innovation from such a small company. Compare the evolution of his product line over the past 5-7 years to the new offerings from anybody else, virtually;y no comparison, especially with the larger names. And I haven't even gotten to his amps yet. I read a quote from him once that I found interesting, he was talking about FOH cabinets as compared to bass cabs and Jim's take was that a cabinet for "producing sound" (i.e. a bass cab) is completely different than a cab for "reproducing sound". That the bass cab is really an extension of your instrument. And his customer service is fabulous. My first cab had a rattling noise brand new out of the box. I quickly found myself emailing directly with Jim and he wanted to get it resolved asap. He treated me like I was a very important customer (Oh, it's THAT John Thisdell that plays with that awesome band Possum! I hear they even get paid occasionally! )
I'll have to check the article. I'm definitely a Bergantino cab fan with a CN112, CN212 and NV610 (and possibly an NV212T someday). I have also spoken to Jim when his NV115 came out, he was great to talk to and its pretty cool to be able to communicate with a manufacturer, and its also very cool that Jim hangs out here on TB from time to time.
Me too! Jim has always treated me like I was a well known bassist. IIRC, when I blew up the horn in one of my cabinets, he sent me a new voice coil assembly for free.
I've received nothing but good advice from him and love my HT322. I really enjoy his postings on this board. He has a distinct opinion, is never snarky, and supports his theories. He's made some statements on this board that might go against the grain of other engineers yet no one ever challenges. Top man in my book. I posted this from a recent email from his shop which supports my sometimes unpopular belief of class D amps. From yesterdays Bergantino email "1200 watts of ultra-reliable, Class D power offers unprecedented “slam” in a lightweight, portable package." "This amp harkens back to the classic lead sleds that players have been longing for, an incredible thump without the weight...it has to be experienced!"
I've met Jim in his shop several times at both locations. He is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about his craft. He is a class act, he even let me take out the prototype CN212 for a weekend. I still rock my AE410 and my favorite cab of all time is his NV610, I owned that one twice. Still wish I had one for old times sake. Jim continues to advance the art of cabinet building.
Jim & Holly are simply the best. Genius + teriffic customer service + a you're part of the family attitude. Just doesn't get any better.
Although I am out of Berg gear at the moment, I'm a passionate Jim fan and appreciative customer over many years.
My AE112 + Forte moves some serious air for such a small package. I don't even bother looking at cabs from other brands.
Not knocking Bergantino at all, and I'd love to try his sealed 1x15 one day, but that quote is basic instrument cab building 101. I've read that on the internet a million times from a million different sources.
I look forward to reading this article. I don’t have a subscription, but I may pick up a copy this month. I’m definitely a fan of Bergantino gear: previously NV610, NV115, and CN212 (x2) and now B|Amp and HDN212. This current setup is really quite remarkable. My only concern is how fast his innovation churns, honestly. B|Amp addresses that with updates, of course (until we see the B|Amp HP haha).
Jim B. is a passionate guy at what he does. That’s where the natural and organic customer service comes from. They love what they do and servicing customers is second nature. I own one piece of Berg gear, a Forte’ that I popped for last year. I ran it a two ohms during acceptance testing and was curious why the fan ran at 100% in 2-ohm mode. Sent Jim an email and I had my answer within the hour. He thoroughly described that it is the correct and expected behavior in terms that were understandable and clear. Perfect. Someday if my inventory of Epifani cabinets get squirrelly, I’d love to pop for a Bergie cab or two. FWIW, the Bergentino amps sound awesome through early Epi UL1’S.
Jim is outstanding and a true asset. I’m privileged to have some of his products. Can’t say the same for the new version of BP. Thumbs down.
So my wife and I were listening to various amps as I had already purchased Berg 1-12 previously. Finally it came down between BI Amp and another brand . BI easily won, so I asked my wife which tone in the BI she liked . It was the forte’ tone, so we bought the Forte’. Came out of the box set flat and no matter how I twiddled knobs , flat always sounds best! Thanks again to my wife and her acute hearing!
I have other cabs I wanted to run my forte’ thru but they are all 1/4”, so I asked Jim about a speakon cable with 1/4 “ . He said it would work, so I bought one and forte’ improved their sound, making my forte’ even more versatile.
