This has been a popular Joe Sample tune, recorded with Jay Anderson on upright bass. I'm trying to pick my way through it on electric. Not that I want to imitate JA, but he has quiet a romp through the tune and it sounds like fun.

I believe it's a minor pentatonic riff, fairly simple in outline but my ear's aren't good enough to get the details. I haven't been able to find any sheet music.

Does anyone know the cord progression or have any tips on playing this?

    Thanks,

    John

[I posted this on the Recordings forum but realized this is the proper place for it, apologies for the duplication]

Very Cool tune. I'll have a go at it tonight when I get home and see if I can help at all. Jay Anderson does a nice job on the recording. Are you asking about doing the melody line on electric or the bass line?

The bass line, or at least something close to it.
Anderson does some fun things in there, but I'll be glad just to have the framework.

    Thank you,

    John
