is sean hurley formerly with vertical horizon. i saw the show in the hague, the netherlands yesterday. killer band, by the way. does anybody know what happened to dela, john's longtime bassist?
Maybe a passport problem. I dug Hurley's work with Vertical Horizon , but I would miss Dela. As much as I love Pino's work, I always thought LaBruyere was the perfect bassist for Mayer.
Looks like Dela's contract wasn't renewed with John Mayer. No one's sure why. He has a great myspace page and fansite page as well. Stop by and say hello.http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=391643237&MyToken=796771d3-087e-4c11-b2de-3ecf78b5b800
This really sucks. I have a ticket to see John in July. I've always wanted to see Dela in person and I was not happy when I heard this.
Fear not man, Sean Hurley is a great guy (known him aquaintence-like since he worked on a project with my friend Marc Copely), personally and performance / ability-wise. I bet he does great in this slot.
I'm a huge Sean Hurley fan...I've seen him many times and I can attest to this fact: He's one of the best bassists working today. Check out his super funked-up work on the first Thicke album, also he's on the new Annie Lennox album as well as recordings by Paul Stanley and the singer from Train. He can play jazz really well, can transcribe solos, has worked as a producer, and one time I saw him do Donna Lee on an upright with a bow!! He's also got a really unique sound...who else out there is using a '74 Gibson Hollow body with two Divided by 13 all tube heads and 4x12 cabinets?? When I found out DeLa was no longer with Mayer, I was bummed. But when I found out who his replacement was, I went through the roof!!!
I know this is an old thread, but I'm watching the new Mayer show from the Beacon and had to comment. Hurley is now running a P-Bass through an SVT with an 8x10, just like DeLa used to. I wonder what happened to the Epiphone and the Divided By 13? Any insiders know?
Ding, ding, ding. IMO, most bass players who play in bands come back to the Ampeg/Precision phase at least once in their career.
Meh. Dela usually played his jazz bass. I think Sean is one of those guys that likes to play the right bass for the song. On the Letterman concert he played a Lakland Bob Glaub, an old Fender Precision (I about crapped my pants when I heard his tone! flats? rounds? details! want!), and some other bass I couldn't pick out (hollowbody). Ed Sullivan Theater concert http://www.cbs.com/late_night/late_...YP5pcEJTY4hx6O3yioP1YGBI&vs=Default&play=true Dela put out his own album and is now touring with Dave Barnes last I heard. (Awesome songwriter, by the way.) His playing will fit in perfectly with Dave, since groove machine Calvin Turner (Marc Broussard) is usually the bassist on Dave's CDs.
