I just downloaded (legally:D) John Scofields new Album called "Piety"
It is John Scofield with the Blind Boys of Alabama. Really cool stuff. Great classic Gospel rhythm section with George Porter holding down the low end. Definitely worth checking out.

A few poorly recorded live examples of the band:

  2. Just read about it in BASS PLAYER... gotta check it out!!!

    A couple clarifications:

    1. The title of the record is "Piety Street", named after the New Orleans studio where it was recorded.

    2. The Blind Boys of Alabama aren't on this record. The personnel are Scofield, Porter, John Cleary on keys and vocals, Ricky Fataar on drums, John Boutte on vocals and Shannon Powell on percussion.

My bad, On of the revewers mentioned the Blind Boys of Alabama. I should have known better. And since I downloaded I didn't have the liner notes.
