John Turner, this thread is directed at you......

  1. Who makes the strings for your insanely large basses? How much do you spend on them? And how often do you change them? Just wondering, even though I'll stick w/ my "dainty" 5-stringer.

They are Dean Markley's, SR2000 I believe, he buys them direct in bulk through their artist relations department.

The low F# on his 8's(and one or 2 of his 7's) is a .150, but he is currently looking for somebody to make him a .168, says that the .150 just doesn't quite do the low notes justice.

And also the low F# doesn't last as long as the other strings.

John, is that another reason that you are looking for a bigger F#?

    yeah, thanks jeff! :D

yeah, i want a bigger low F# so that i can get a bit better response on the lowest notes. joey lauricella(sp?) at fodera told me at the namm show that he has made some .168"'s for some customers before, so i am going to give him a ring and see if he can make me some.

otherwise, i am really happy with the dean markley - the tone of the strings is very pleasing for me and they last a good long time.
