Yep. I just finished the first one, now #2 is on the drawing board -- I'm filling out my "project parts planning sheet" as I type this. I sent an e-mail to Larry, at Gallery Hardwoods early this morning. He's been good to me in the past -- love his stuff, and would like to keep using it. I'd like to start ordering materials before school starts back in mid-August.

This one will be the same design and everything as the first, but with slightly different specs -- a more hollowed body, different pickup (piezo?), different bridge setup (I'm thinking about a floating one), and that swooshy fingerboard heel thing I like so much! :smug:

Okay, I'm keeping this one a little more simple. Here are the proposed specs:

    - Claro walnut body (walnut is my favorite). More hollowed than #001. Possibly 1.5" total thickness instead of 1.75"
    - Birdseye or burl maple top (although I'm kind of thinking spruce).
    - Birdseye maple neck. 1 5/8" nut. Double-acting truss rod. I already have the wood for this.
    - Ebony fingerboard. Fretted. No fret markers. Abalone side dots. WITH swooshy heel thing.
    - Ebony floating bridge. String-through.
    - Ebony knobs.
    - Black Hipshot Ultralites (or maybe Gotoh GB7s).
    - Fishman pizeo pickup, perhaps?

    You betcha! :D

When I bought the maple for #001's neck, I had enough left over for another neck, so I've already got the neck wood for this build.

Today, I routed an 11-degree slope at one end of my blank to make the angled headstock. I plan on gluing on a nice piece of 1/2" walnut as the headstock, to match the body, and then capping it with whatever kind of wood I use for the top, be it maple, myrtle, or spruce, to match that as well.

As soon as I do that, I can rout the truss rod channel.

I like your optimism. Your first build took 3 years, but you went with a 3-digit serial number system. Looking forward to seeing Serenade #100 in the year 2309. :D

I'm just foolin'. I have a build that's nearly as old and not even done (not a bass, though).

Keep in mind I'm a college student with a day job and a girlfriend. :smug:

Since I can't mess with the neck until I get the body woods (so the headstock matches), I've been working on what might be the floating bridge for this one. Will it work? I dunno, but if it does, then it's one less thing I have to worry about making later.

    Picture time!
Seeing the bridge for #002 on #001 makes me realize that I should have DEFINITELY gone with a floating bridge.

Ditto. Just don't pay attention to the girlfriend. I decided to get a rather small one, so easier to brush aside. ;)

Sorry, but I can't do that.
I love her too much. :)

    Give it a few years.
