    joke time.....

Ear plugs are like condoms, you would rather not wear them but they will save your butt in the long run. :D

did anyone ever hear this joke before?

The way I've heard it is:

Playing with a drummer is like using a condom - safer with, better without.

This is not a joke - but rather a very serious point!!

So tinnitus and hearing loss is no laughing matter - neither is getting Aids or other sexually-transmitted diseases.... :meh:

I see no joke in this whatsoever...?

Remind me never to jam with or have sex with you.

  8. That reminds me of a time when I was skateboarding (Yeh, I'm a bad-ass-hardcore-rebal-with-out-a-cause punk. What you going to do about it?) in a carpark and a rode of a condom which was full and someone had tied it up.

Lets just say I had to give my wheels a good wash. Gross.

    never used plugs...
    so no, never heard it!
but seriously, i didn't use them when i was younger, they didn't have decent ones....
i use them now, even in my vehicle, because i suffer from tinnitus.
    it's horrible.
there are some great cheap plugs on the market by hearos,
they are filters (like expensive custom molded ones)... you still hear full-range, they're not muffled sounding at all, just quieter.
    around 15 bucks at gc.
    do yourself a favor...

Tinnitus sucks. Don't mess with your hearing. I've got it, and it sucks. When you play music, and you think that you can't hear yourself well enough with plugs in, you'd better put them in and get used to it. Trust me, it's no fun when your ears are always ringing.

They *tied it up* to keep the stuff inside? Jeez, he's not wound up too tight at *all*, huh?

    EWWWWWW!!! Nasteeeeee.

  13. not a very funny joke, but a good analogy. I've seen it used many times in this exact respect, though

I read that thread about a year ago (luckily before my band got too loud) and ever since, I've been using earplugs. Wouldn't dream of playing without them. They do kill the vibe a bit, but hell, I'm not gonna let myself get tinnitis! I'm gonna invest in professional plugs as soon as I can find time to get to an audiologist.

However, I did think the joke was amusing... :)

Tbh that's true, I own a Yamaha PSR-1000 and despite it being a great keyboard, I still prefer to use actual instruments whenever possible.
