Jonas Hellborg, without a doubt one of the greatest electric bassists and dare I say, musicians of all time. He also has a great bass face!

I'm currently sitting here listening to "Bass" by him. I think that and "Elegant Punk" are some of my most prized possessions since they cost me £25 each! (quite a bit for a record I would say!) But I am very proud of my Hellborg record collection, I am fascinated by his music, he really is a visionary on the bass and with the music he creates as a whole.

  6. Kudos to Hellborg for the best bass face ever:

His stuff never did much for me, though.

Everything I've heard of his reeks of the All Technique/No Soul problem. But someone'll probably say that about my favorite musicians too, so...

Try listening to some of Elegant Punk or The Silent Life. Or even Ars Moriendi. I'm sure that'll change your mind!

He plays some pretty sick stuff, especially with the Johansson brothers. Not really something I dig all of the time though, some of his playing does have more of a fireworks thing going on than a music making one. I agree about his face though, he should pair up with Aphex Twin, that would be the stuff of nightmares right there.

If you guys haven't heard "Good people in times of Evil", you are truly missing out. I have the album and the DVD... here is a good youtube link.

Yes, Jonas Hellborg may be one of the greatest bassist/composers/improvisers of out time.

Oops, forgot to mention that the Hellborg Lane combo is one of the best in jam/jazz/prog

Man, Hellborg and Lane were incredible together. I'm always surprised by the way they just seem to "blow up" when they play together. I listened to a lot of "Personae" today and it really is just electric stuff!
