Joss Stone Bassist?

Discussion in 'Bassists [BG]' started by basskopf, Jul 26, 2009.

  1. We saw Joss Stone last night in Lucerne, Switzerland at the Blues Festival. We had front row seats in a sold out crowd. This girl is only 22 years old and my god does she have soul!

I would like to know if anyone knows who her bassist is on this tour, can't find it anywhere on the net. Black guy, probably at least 50 years old, heavyset.

This guy is one of the most outstanding bassists I have ever seen. Rock solid, rooted to the spot all night, incredible technique, also incredible soul.

His setup was a simple black Fender Jazz Bass, 2 SWR 4x10's and a GK head, tube I think.

Thanks for any inputs or leads.

Look for Abel Pabon on myspace

I worked with Abel for many years in Miami and last I talked to him he was still with Joss...he would obviously know

  4. A great thanks to Marcus who connected me with his friend Abel.... who gave me this information:
The bassists name is Rob Watson and he is from the S.F. Bay Area. He played with James Brown for a year before his death.
    This guy has got soul!
Tried to find some links on youtube or myspace but a bit difficult, many musicians named Robert Watson. Thanks again to Marcus!

  5. I hear Joss herself plays bass too... :D

Pete Iannacone. He used what looked like a '70s Fender Jazz with either dead strings or flats. Dude has great tone and groove.

  8. Is that the guy that plays the "Fell In Love With a Boy" recording? Straight greasy.

That was Adam Blackstone on her first album. The other very funky bassist on that album was Jack Daley. I definitely dug Iannacone's playing on her live stuff!

The new album has some of the best bass tone especially on the second track "This Ain't Love". Sounds like a vintage jazz with flats
