TalkBass is so damn diverse! We have thrashy shredders, jazz guys, doomers, ol' blues dawgs, uprighters, pop-punkers, experimental types and out and out funkfaces all mixing it up in one big melting pot of bass goodness, and it's unreal. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to in 3 words or less and in the most layman terms you can (mention what you use to achieve it if you have to...who am I kidding, of course you do) - describe your basic tone. For example, I would refer to mine as a 'sarcastic, middy snarl'. Not a growl. A snarl haha. I think it hinges on my fresh string obsession, oldschool GK gear and the way I use a certain boost pedal as a 'tone' pedal.
Thick gooey twang. Thundering razor burn. Flagellated piano wire. Other than that, I’ll settle for bong rattling.
My Tone is different everywhere I go. I use different basses, play in different rooms, use provided backlines... My at home practice rig (and bass) is different than my band rehearsal rig. Being that as such, my tone is best described as Agnostic and Variable.
