I was home today playing my old trusty MIM Fender P-Bass trying to figure out why I haven't been getting good slap and pop tones out of my new Carvin RL1015.

Just as I was ready to head back to work, the UPS man arrived. I bought a Stingray 5 off a guy that had a listing on e-bay about a week ago. UPS was delivering my new baby!!!!

All I have to say is WOW!!!! The difference in tone between the Stingray and my old P-Bass is amazing.

I had just set up my P-Bass the other day because the truss rod was really loose. I had never done a set-up on it before, and thought that might have been why I wasn't getting good tone out of it. The action was way high and I was getting a really clunky slap sound out of it. It almost sounded like "whack whack" instead of "bwang bwang". I plugged in the Stingray, and immediately, I got the sound I was looking for!!!! (I'm sure I'll tweak things a bit). I now know my Carvin amp wasn't the problem, it was my bass. Perhaps it just needed new strings, I don't know. But, the Stingray is just such a phenomenal difference in tone, it's awesome. Plus, the Stingray is sooooo easy to play. It's like butter compared to my P-Bass.

I now know my new bass and amp are going to bring me LOTS of happiness!

    Just thought I'd share.
  2. so uh, where are the pics?

I tried to post, but they're too big. I'll have to do it later!!! :D

Here's the e-bay listing (I paid the guy the $800 and he ended it early for me).

Here are more (these are what the guy sent me, I'll try to take some better ones with my stack later this weekend):

I'm gonna try and replace the pickguard with a black pearloid guard when I get the chance, so it will look like this:

  8. I played one exactly like that a while back. Unfortunatly I got a lemon. The fret edges were sharp and could have cut my hand if I dug in too much. Great tone though. I'll bet with the new PG it'll look even better. Get some pics up soon.

Nice! I'm envious - I think I want one as a five string complement to my Sterling!
  13. MM owner here.

Bought a 4 string stingray new in 1978 she was my only bass that I played out for quite a while. Now I also have a 2001 5 string fretless with piezo Vintage sunburst and a fretted 2001 purple with matching head and pearl pick guard. I think they are like Jays potato chips.
  14. welcome to the SR5 club! I picked up one last week for $800 as well. We got great basses at great deals! Woohoo!
