    For passive, get fender. For active, lakland. Both great. I prefer lakland.
     
  6. OP, Is there a chance you could drop by a music shop to test them both to compare for yourself? Everyone has different tastes. One person's ideal instrument may not appeal to another person.

    What @TolerancEJ said. Try as many as you can. Both would be nice basses and both would be something many bassists would find useful assuming equal setup. There aren't really any cons against either of your choices. But for me, my go/no-go is the neck and how it feels to me. Bridges, pickups, pick guard, even color is easily changeable but a great bass with a neck that I don't like is not a great bass to me.
