My son is 11 and wants to learn bass, so I ordered the SX Jazz Short-Scale. It arrived yesterday. I wasn't expecting much, since it's a short-scale, and it cost $100. But the tone is awesome and the construction is solid. I have a Fender Deluxe Active Jazz and this little thing sounds just as good. I kept thinking I must be missing something, that it couldn't possibly compare. When it comes to tone I am extremely picky. But it honestly sounds as good as (possibly better than) my Fender. Plus, no dead spots! My Fender has a horrible dead spot on the G string, 5th fret. No such problem with the SX, I assume because of its smaller scale. Definitely an excellent bass, especially for the price. I would play it live any day.

Would it be lame to be seen on stage playing a short-scale SX? :)
