I'm just learning to play and need some good advice as to what kind of bass to purchase. I am primarily interested in jazz. If I could get some good advise before spending my hard earned cash I would really appreciate it. Thanks

    Do some searching around TB.

Folks are gonna recommend Yamaha, Mexican Fenders, Peavey, etc.

What I'd do is go down to a local music shop. Don't ask the employees for advice, just start grabbing everything they'll let you play with and pick whatever you like best.

I would recommend that you go to your local music retailer, and try out as many basses as you can, so you can determine what is comfortable for your hands.

Yamaha, Ibanez, Peavey, and Dean make decent entry level basses.

    What is your budget?
