i jus put the strangest string combo ever on my sr400.

try 2 fender tapewounds at the e and a, then two dr highbeams on the d and g. coolest slap tones, beacuse al the slapping is thuddy and mellowed, but the bright slaps are crisp.

i'm totally digging this. plus, i can get great jazz tones as well. fingerstyle.
  2. o yeah, well my squier with 2 ernie ball hybrid slinkies at the E and A strings with the D and G string stock strings pwns your bass

I have done something similar for over a year now, I have the E and G stings strung up with fender nickels, and the A and D's with steels, I like the way it sounds, I can get the aggressive sound from the two middles strings, and the mellow highs, and thick almost muddy lows. good stuff.
