1938 Kay M-2 Army upright bass in excellent condition. Huge sound with incredible sustain. Adjustable bridge, cable tail gut, original high quality German tuners, purfled top and back, steel strings, bag.

The bass is solid though there are older repairs to the neck and heel that are stable (see pics). It does not include the Underwood pickup shown in the photo.

    $3,200 or best offer

Is this the one-half sized M-2 model?

    I know, between the 3/4 M-1 and 1/4 M-3 there ought to be a 1/2 M-2, but no.

The M-2 is a standard 3/4-scale bass, designed as an economy version of the fancy M-1 Alvin Hawes and only available '37-'39. As far as we've been able to discover, Kay never made a 1/2-scale bass, although one did appear in a catalog illustration in the '50s. There was no 1/2 tooling.
