Kay Bass 1943

    Kay Bass built in 1943. Improvements made in 2010 include reset never-broken neck, new ebony fingerboard, nut & saddle, adjustable bridge, sound post and glued seams. Vintage vinyl bag included. The finish is in above average condition with repaired delaminations. $2,299.

    Events of 1943:

    WWII continues.

    The Original Carter Family breaks up after their WBT radio in Charlotte contract ends. Sara moves to Cailfornia, A.P. moves home and opens a general store, and Maybelle continues the Carter legacy by forming “Mother Maybelle and The Carter Sisters” who perform on WRNL Richmond, Virginia.

    King Records launched in Cincinnati in November.

    One of Country’s greatest future stars, Elvis Presley, debuts on stage at age eight with Red Foley’s hit, “Old Shep.”

    Thank you for your inquiry.
    Upton Bass reset the neck, installed the ebony fingerboard, nut, saddle and bridge.
    In addition, luthier Mike Asetta installed and fitted the new spruce sound post, closed the seams and performed final setup.

  6. Looks a lot like my 1941 Kay M-1 which is currently in my luthier's shop for a setup.

    I prefer to keep it local to avoid the risks of shipping a DB, however I will drive an hour+ to deliver!

    Events in 1943:

    Duke Ellington's Black, Brown and Beige is released.
    Jimmy Dorsey introduces Star Eyes, Charlie Parker records an early interpretation of Cherokee, bassists Jack Bruce, Pete Quaife (Kinks), Lee Jackson (Nice) are born, and Charles Mingus tours with Louis Armstrong.
